Extreme Sports events around the world!!!

Hell’s Gate, Tuscany, Italy
Tucked away in the picturesque mountains of Tuscany, the Hell's Gate is one of the most difficult races Enduro (racing bikes) in the world. The game is designed by the legend of the sport Fabio Fasola, who wanted to make a distinction between good and amazing riders Enduro. The Gate of Hell continues to fulfill the purpose of each year, and it is characteristic that in 2010 only 2 of the 103 participants were able to complete the journey without leaving due to adverse conditions.

Multi Sport Events! Something more than just Olympics!

After the amazing summer that 2012 offered in the multi sport events world in London, it is no wonder that the world now is looking forward to the new Olympic games in 2016 in Rio. The excitement and the expectations are more than trilling as the city will be hosting two years before the event the FIFA World Cup.

QATAR - The New Sport Event Destination

Before the FIFA appointed Qatar to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, most of us would probably not have associated Qatar with sports. However, in the run up to Qatar's bid for the football world cup, Qatar has already proven that it can host major sport events : Asian Championships in Handball, Basketball, Sailing, Indoor Athletics, Youth Wrestling, Fencing and Shooting. Events such as the World Team Table Tennis Championships and World Weightlifting Championships have brought international athletes and teams to the desert state. With the upcoming Handball World Championships (2015) and Road Cycling World Championships (2016) Qatar has yet secured two additional global sport events.

Athletics after Pistorius!

Athletics as a sport is renowned for uniting a country and allowing us to be inspired by sports events. The London 2012 Olympics was a showcase of both new and old talent and a spectacle with new world records being achieved and the fastest men's 100m final in history. It is moments like these which allow us to recognise sports on an international level. However with the Oscar Pistorius case still at the forefront of every sports fans mind what does this lend to the reputation of a sport that was so celebrated just a few months ago?

For those of you that don't know Oscar was the first paralympian to compete with fully able athletes in London 2012! His use of blades instead of legs were at the height of controversy during the mega event. However it is not his racing abilities that are now questioned but his motives as he is targeted as prime suspect in the murder investigation of his girlfriend.

Review week 8

In our preview of week 8 we have made some prediction on how this sports week will turn out. Let's check if we were right:

Football Champions League:
Boateng: Match winner!
Victory for Bayern Munich: Check! With a great match and a 1:3 win for Bayern, we can almost say "Welcome to the Quarter-Final of the Champions League Bayern Munich"
Victory for Barcelona: Not at all! What was that?! Thanks to goals from Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari, Milan has the chance to make it to the Quarter-Final of the Champions League.
Draw between Porto and Malaga: Not really. With only one goal behind, Malaga has still the chance to win on home ground and make it to the QF.
Dram between Galatacsaray and Schalke: Check! However this match might not count because Schalke have lodged a protest with Uefa over Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba's participation.

The Best Biathlon Blog

Since I am a child I love watching biathlon in the winter time. It is for Biathlon that I cannot wait for the snow to arrive and the World Cup season to start. I am following biathlon live ( if I can afford it), on TV and on the Internet. Even if my friends think ( I am crazy and)  I know all about this sports and its athletes, I was still looking for a website or a blog to provide background information and statistics on the Biathlon World Cup. With the real biathlon blog I have found the perfect blog for biathlon nerds like me.

Real Biathlon has different features:

Dancing on thin ice?

It is a well known fact that figure skaters Torvill and Dean are something of a legend in Britain however can the same still be said for the itv one prime time show Dancing on Ice?

The TV show that has proven popular dependant on the line up has allowed greater coverage for the sport of figure skating and increased accessibility of the sport tenfold in a country that traditional this country is rubbish at!

The lineup of this show is important to gain ratings success however this years crop had trouble gaining event d list celebrity status! The star of the show, blonde Barbie Pamela Anderson, was voted out on week one and since then celebrities have been competing for a reinvention in fame rather than just the dancing on ice crown!

More sports on snow and grass

Will he score against his old club?
Only yesterday we did have time to rest from previous sport events such as the World Championships in Alpine Skiing and Biathlon. Already today, Tuesday February 19th, we can watch some great football matches between Arsenal and Bayern Munich as well as between Porto and Malaga.  On Wednesday there are more Champions League matches: Galatasaray vs. Schalke and Milan vs. Barcelona. My predictions on these matches are wins for Bayern Munich and Barcelona and draws at the other two matches. Any different thoughts?

A Happy End?!

At the preview of week seven we asked ourselves if Austria will finally win their first gold medal of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming, Austria. Although these championships have been disappointing for the Austrians, they still had a happy end, as they have won a medal in the Team Event on Tuesday and another gold medal through Marcel Hirscher today. With two gold, two silver and four bronze medals Austria has won the most medals of all teams and finds itself on the second place of the medal count. Only the American team with fabulous Ted Ligety (3 gold) and the surprising teenager Mikaela Shiffrin (1 gold) have done better in these championships:

It had it all: Surprises, Disappointments and Favourite Victories

Hoefl-Riesch on her way to gold
In our preview of week 6 we started off with the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming, Austria. After five out of eleven competitions it is fair to say, that the Austrian athletes have until now under-performed on home ground. So far they have won one medal through Nicole Hosp in the super combination, although fans and officials were expecting at least three by that time of the championships. Hopes are still up, as many Austrian athletes have finished in the top ten. On the other hand Tina Maze, as expected, won the Super-G which was a turbulent first race of the championships. Aksel Lund Svindal from Norway is now the king of alpine skiing, because he has won the men’s downhill on Saturday and has therefore been rewarded with ~ €30,000. Maria Hoefl-Riesch is the third athlete to mention, since she has won the super combination and came in third at today’s downhill. Each of these athletes has so far won two medals making them the most successful competitors by now.

Is it worth the show?

Discussions after Vonn’s crash

On Wednesday, 6th of February, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming started with the Super-G (female). The race was supposed to start at 11 am local time but was postponed 13 times and therefore delayed by 3.5 hours. The fog hanging over the course made it impossible to guarantee a fair race for all participants. At 2.30 pm “the visibility was great, there were no problems, and the course was also in good shape”, stated Atle Skaardal, FIS women's race director. At 3.15pm it was Lindsey Vonn’s turn and she did great in the first bit of the course. After a jump Vonn landed on an icy part of the course, lost balance, flipped in the air and smashed a gate. A helicopter brought her into the Schladming hospital, where the diagnosis was: anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament tear as well as a tibial plateau fracture.
