Preview week 6 - It’s all about winter sports and soccer!?

The Queen of this Championship?
The first week of February has a lot to offer, if you are interested in sport events. The week starts off with the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming, Austria and is scheduled until the 17th of February. The first discipline, the Super-G, will already show if the favourites of this season, Tina Maze and Marcel Hirscher, can live up to the expectations. Certainly the Super-G will be easier for Maze, but who knows what Hirscher is able to do, participating in a world championship on home ground?!

Time to celebrate again?
On Thursday, the 46th Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, will start. To be honest, I would bet everything I have, on that Tora Berger and Martin Fourcade will have at least one medal lying on their bedside table when they go to sleep this Sunday night. From an event point of view it will be interesting to see if Nove Mesto, which hosted the first Biathlon World Cup only last season, will be able to deliver a first class sport event.

But even if you are not interested in winter sports, this week has quite a bit to offer which should keep you entertained. There are a lot of soccer friendly matches taking place on Wednesday night. You shouldn’t miss out on Spain vs. Uruguay, Netherlands vs. Italy or England vs. Brazil. Furthermore, the national team of France will welcome Germany to play a friendly at Parc du Prince Stadium in Paris.  But Wednesday is not just an important day for the friendly matches - “it’s time for Africa” (again). The Semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations between Mali and Nigeria as well as Burkina Faso and Ghana are on that afternoon. Here again I will bet on the following final taking place in Port Elisabeth on Sunday at 6.30pm (GMT+0): Nigeria vs. Ghana; with Ghana celebrating their 5th African championship, the first after 31 years!

If this is not enough sports for you then you should go and watch the 2013 Six Nations Championship with matches on Saturday : Scotland vs. England and France vs. Wales as well as one match on Sunday: Ireland vs. England in the beautiful Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Any predictions on these matches?

Enjoy this great sporting week and stay tuned to see if my predictions proofed to be right. Do you think differently?
